Felipe Paulino (1-2, 3.38 ERA) The hard-throwing Paulino has shown great promise despite a 7-27 career mark. He’s 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA in his eight games since being obtained from the Rockies. He has 45 strikeouts against 12 walks in 48 innings for the Royals. Paulino is making his eighth start (ninth appearance) for the Royals since being purchased from the Rockies on May 26. In his last outing, he allowed three runs on nine hits in six innings.
Brian Duensing (6-7, 4.13 ERA) has been on a roll recently, with a 2.41 ERA over his last five starts. He was at it against the White Sox, allowing just two runs on five hits over seven innings. Duensing entered the All-Star break victorious in two of his last three starts, including a shutout against the Rays on July 4. The left-hander had allowed two runs in his last two starts, spanning 16 innings. Duensing, 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA in his last three home starts, is 4-1 with a 2.03 ERA lifetime against Kansas City. He’s faced the Royals three times in 2011, going 1-1 with a 1.71 ERA.
Winner of 15 of 19 overall at Target Field and 13 of 17 at home versus Kansas City, Minnesota has a good chance to improve both of those marks. Easy win for Twins!
