“The Vancouver Canucks won 2-1 at home Thursday to stay alive in this Western Conference Quarterfinals series against the Calgary Flames.
The Vancouver players seem pretty excited about the win (quite understandable) and are trying to put the pressure on the Flames: “It’s hard to close out a series, ” goaltender Ryan Miller said after Friday’s practice. “I’ve been in those situations and you do let doubt get into your mind sometimes. Our job is to keep reinforcing that and keep reminding them we are a good team and they are going to have to beat us. ” What Miller omit to mention is that it’s the Nucks who are in a do or die situation and have even more pressure on them.
Keep in mind that the Flames already have performed well under pressure as they needed to win their last home game against the Los Angeles Kings or their finale in Winnipeg to make the playoffs for the first time in six years. They defeated the Kings and that was that . I’ve done it plenty throughout the season, but do not make the same mistake I have: Do NOT underestimate this Calgary team. The Flames defeated the Nucks 4-2 and 3-1 in the first two meetings in the series at the Saddledome and they’re now 8-1-2 in their last 11 home games. The Nucks meanwhile are 0-4 in their last four when visiting a team with a winning home record and a lowly 2-8 in their last 10 Conference Quarterfinals games. If there’s a team in this contest not performing well in decisive games it’s the Nucks, and Calgary should be a bigger favorite here IMO.”
