Andrew Thornton on The Listener - 2005Acomb Stakes at York, the jury is out on whether Khalid Abdullah’s colt is best over 7f or whether he should be stepped up in trip to a mile. Dundonnell idled when left alone with the lead in the Acomb and would benefit from an even pace on Saturday rather than the muddling affair which occurred at York. Granted a decent pace, Dundonell can win this en-route to bigger things. At 3.00 in the Class 2 Portland Handicap, the strong gelding Mass Rally is the each-way selection. A horse of genuine class, he is not the most resolute of characters, often timorous at the business end of races. Mass Rally’s last run however over 5f at York is hard to fault as he finished like a speeding bullet only to find the finishing line coming too soon when finishing second to Tax Free . The extra half furlong should be in favour of Michael Dods’ charge on Saturday. The Mollart Cox Class 2 handicap at 5.20 brings the four day St Leger meeting to a close and in the lucky last hopefully the improving and ground versatile Viking Storm can get punters the bus fare home as he seeks to complete a hat-trick.]]>
