Cartmel Racecourses
One quirky aspect of the course is that the winning post is situated in the center of the course (inside the circuit) which comes off a chute. For a small venue, it still attracts a decent amount of visitors, especially during the summer months.
There are no pattern races during the National Hunt calendar, their most prestigious events are actually handicaps!
Unlike most national hunt tracks which are easy and sharp in nature and thus would normally mean the fences are fair, however, this is not the case around here not only are the fences stiff they are placed in certain tricky places on the course.
Horses that are, nimble, athletic and race with zest tend to perform well around here and it’s not surprising that previous course winners can often perform well again when returning to the venue, even if apparently being out of form on recent evidence.
You will often find that during the winter months the ground tends to ride very testing as the components of the surface does hold onto moisture for a longer period of time than would normally be the case at other tracks if receiving the same amount of precipitation.
The fences are slightly higher than usual but are not that stiff, when fatal errors do occur it’s usually a sign of tiredness being a stamina sapping track. On the hurdle course, there are six obstacles on the circuit whilst there are nine fences on the chase course.
Further below are some trainer angles for your consideration at the venue.
Please note: Profit and Loss figures (P/L) is based on level stakes betting of one Euro per bet to SP.
Trainer: D McCain
Course: Cartmel
Race Type: Handicap Hurdle (Not Novice in Status)
Bets: 65 Wins: 15 Strike Rate: 23.08% P/L+26.26
Additional note; Profits can be increased further or should I say losses reduced if focusing on all the yards runners that are contesting class races from three to five only, this will eliminate quite a few losing bets in the process as there were no winners in class two events, a better quality type of handicap. The yards runners tend to be effective around here from any distance of two miles and one half furlongs and up to including races of three miles and two furlongs.
Trainer: P Bowen
Course: Cartmel
Race Type: Handicap Chase (Not Novice in status)
Bets: 33 Wins: 9 Strike Rate: 27.27% P/L+21.13
Additional note; A decent return to level stakes coming about from a decent win strike rate. To improve on both the overall return and win strike rate then I would ignore the stable’s runners that aged nine and above, no winners in this age range, not surprising as the yard tend to only run horses on a possible downgrade at this track, ie; horses approaching the veteran age in National Hunt racing terms.
