Ffos Las – A Guide to UK Jump Racecourses

Ffos Las Racecourses

Ffos Las racecourse is a galloping, flat left handed track. The circuit is about one mile and four furlongs in circumference and is oval in shape. It is the most recent course to have opened in Wales having opened in 2009, they spent just over twenty million pounds on development. It is a dual purpose course hosting both flat and jump racing.

The hurdle track has six hurdles whilst there are nine fences on the chase circuit. It’s a very wide track by Uk standards, measuring just under 200 feet from the near rail to the far side in the straight.

Surface conditions can get fairly testing when there is rain about, this is despite it being reported that they have a very modern drainage system.

It is a track that suits a galloper and the ability to get the trip well would augur well for one’s chances. Course and distance winners do tend to have a more regular habit of winning again in such circumstances when returning to the track in producing better win percentage terms than many other course and distance winners at other tracks.

Their main feature race is the Welsh Champion Hurdle but despite its title is actually a limited handicap unlike the vast majority of other champion hurdle races. Last season, the race was run over the minimum trip of two miles but in the three preceding years saw the event take place over two miles and four furlongs. Furthermore, it was run in January last year, February for the three years before that.

Further below are some trainer angles for your consideration at the venue.

Please note: Profit and Loss figures (P/L) is based on level stakes betting of one Euro per bet to SP.

Trainer: E Williams

Course: Ffos Las

Race Type: Maiden Hurdle

Bets: 47 Wins: 19 Strike Rate: 19.15% P/L+48.25

Additional note; Evan Williams usually brings horses with a live chance when they are in reasonable form, any horse that has finished in the first five last time out should be considered for betting purposes. By ignoring horses that are making there racecourse debut for the trainer or have finished outside the first five on their latest start will dramatically reduce the amount of losing bets, 22 to be precise.

Trainer: N Henderson

Course: Ffos Las

Race Type: Non-Handicap Hurdle (Novice in status)

Bets: 25 Wins: 14 Strike Rate: 56.00% P/L+18.44

Additional note; It isn’t uncommon for Nicky Henderson to have a decent win strike rate at many courses but even going above 50% by his expectations would be good in his book, last year he was four from four in non-handicap races that are Novice in status. Backing them blind continually should reap rewards over the short and long term.
