Catterick Racecourses
There are no pattern races during the National Hunt calendar, their most prestigious type of races events are handicaps.
The ability to lie handy during races can be a key component to performing well around here. Those that can negotiate the tight turns can gain an advantage whilst the ability to jump well at speed is another attribute that will be well served by this track.
That said, the fences aren’t that big by National hunt standards and the run in from the final obstacle is fairly short, however, given that they tend to travel at pace means you do need to stay well despite this being a speed track, it is basically a test which asks the question of having the right blend of speed and stamina. It is therefore not surprising that horses who have already recorded a win at the venue can often perform well again when returning to this track.
There are six hurdles on the circuit and nine fences in chase races, you will find the fences do tend to come less spaced out in relation to other courses, so again the jumping ability is tested and so is a horses concentration.
Further below are some trainer angles for your consideration at the venue.
Please note: Profit and Loss figures (P/L) is based on level stakes betting of one Euro per bet to SP.
Trainer: K Reveley
Course: Catterick
Race Type: Handicap Hurdle (Not Novice in Status)
Bets: 37 Wins: 8 Strike Rate: 21.62% P/L+22.83
Additional note; Profits can be increased further or should I say losses reduced if focusing on all the yards runners that are contesting distance races below two miles and four furlongs as the yard tend to run speedier types at this venue. Adopting this approach will eliminate quite a few losing bets in the process as there were no winners when racing over further.
Trainer: D McCain
Course: Catterick
Race Type: Handicap Chase (Not Novice in status)
Bets: 34 Wins: 9 Strike Rate: 26.47% P/L+18.18
Additional note; A decent win strike rate but lower overall returns, this is because the winners from the yard tend to be lower in price, In fact, by not betting any runners from this stable of odds of 9.00 or above will save you nine losing bets and there were no winners above this price range. The market seems to be an accurate reflection of the chances of connections and should be taken into account when assessing their chances.
