Roscommon Racecourse
Roscommon Racecourse is a sharp, right handed track. There is around a three and a half furlong run in with a slight incline from the final bend to the winning post. It is a dual purpose course which accommodates both flat and Jump racing and has been assigned with grade two status..
This circuit is about a mile and a quarter in circumference and there is an extended chute attached to the main course for races starting over seven furlongs and an additional chute at the opposing end of the course for races starting over a mile an a half.
They host about nine meetings a year (It can vary slightly year to year) most of which occur in the evening and their program of racing commences in May and usually finishes in the last week of September. There are two 2-day meetings that take place in the month of June and July in which both spectacles are considered family meetings
There is just the one flat pattern race per season known as the Lenebane Stakes which is listed class in status and is run over eleven and a half furlongs. It is open to three year olds and older and takes place in the month of July.
The draw seems more beneficial in route distance races, in this case over seven furlongs where horses that can race handy from a low draw can benefit, especially if the ground is riding on the quick side of good.
In races where there are more than ten runners, has shown those gated in a double figure draw to be at a slight disadvantage with no win strike rate beyond single figures in percentage terms. It should be noted there are no races from five to six furlongs at this track.
Despite the track being sharp in nature, with some tight bends it is still considered a fair course for horses to handle. Yes, there is a slight uphill incline in the home straight but it is far from taxing which means horses can finish their race without needing stamina in abundance when racing round here.
There are no worthwhile trainer stats to report due to the limited number of meetings that take place per season.
