Premier League Transfer Targets

With Leicester City fans still pinching themselves after their fairy tale Premier League title win, all other supporters have turned their attention to next season, and the transfer targets who will guide them to success, especially at the clubs who will kick off the campaign with new coaches in place. Here is a look at some of the biggest transfer stories this summer in the Barclays Premier League.

Big bucks to be spent in Manchester and London?

Three sides welcoming new coaches will surely be leading any transfer activity this summer, especially considering the size of their wallets. Both Manchester clubs will be smarting after cup victories papered over what were disappointing league campaigns. Jose Mourinho, the new Manchester United manager, has never been shy of spending a penny or two, and the Portuguese boss has already been linked with big money moves for the likes of Paul Pogba, and another ex-United player, one Cristiano Ronaldo. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic also rumoured to be joining on a free, the wage bill at Old  Trafford would struggle to sustain three signing of that calibre.  Yet tying teenage striking sensation Marcus Rashford, who scored within three minutes of his England debut last week, to a new four year deal could be the Red Devils’ most important business of the summer.


Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola, the new Manchester City boss, will have an almost limitless transfer kitty, and is already being connected to Ilkay Gundogan, Thiago Alcantara, and Toni Kroos, among many others, including most interestingly, Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez. Incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been linked with a number of his old players at Juventus, with Pogba again touted, along with Leonardo Bonucci. Ex-Blues player Romelu Lukaku and Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan are also being heavily spoken about.

Last season’s top four

With Champions League football to offer, and the new Premier League TV deal increasing the already significant financial clout of English clubs, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and last season’s miracle club, Leicester City, will all be attractive propositions to players seeking a move. Arsenal have already signed Swiss star Granit Xhaka to strengthen their midfield, but supporters will be looking at a marquee signing up front as an upgrade on the oft-criticised Olivier Giroud. Karim Benzema, Gonzalo Higuian and Alvaro Morata have been linked, but would need serious tempting from Real Madrid, Napoli and Juventus respectively, although Morata in particular seems keen.

Tottenham also need a striker, but as back-up to Harry Kane, and have been linked with Breel Embolo of FC Basel, and Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi, who is interesting a host of clubs. Southampton’s Victor Wanyama also remains heavily tipped to reunite with his old boss Mauricio Pochettino. Leicester remain an enigma, as how can you upgrade on a team who won the title by ten points? However, all eyes will be on the exit door before any incoming players are highlighted, with N’Golo Kante heavily linked with Arsenal, and Danny Drinkwater reportedly interesting Liverpool, Star striker Jamie Vardy’s future also remains uncertain.

Liverpool set for a busy summer?

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be keen to make his mark on the Liverpool squad he inherited, and Mario Gotze has been the biggest name linked with Anfield so far this summer. Old Dortmund pal Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a reported target for Arsenal, has also been mooted, along with Southampton’s Sadio Mane and Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. West Ham, meanwhile, are looking at recently relegated Newcastle’s Andros Townsend, and, according to reports, have made a £15m bid for Milan’s Carlos Bacca.
