( votes)Liverpool v Arsenal – Match Preview
Liverpool welcome Arsenal to Anfield on Wednesday night in the Premier League with Arsenal topping the league table as they look to win their first Premier League title since 2004. Liverpool are currently in eighth spot as they aim to remain in the hunt for a Champions League spot.
Liverpool go into Wednesday’s match on the back of a disappointing 2-2 draw against Exeter City in the FA Cup on Friday. With a replay looming, Jurgen Klopp’s side now look set to have to play nine matches in January alone and with an injury hit squad, they now face both Arsenal and Manchester United in the space of five days. They have shown however that they are capable of raising their match for the big occasion, with victories over Manchester City, Chelsea and Leicester City already this season and two victories this week would be a massive boost to their top four ambitions. Under new manager Klopp, Liverpool have as yet failed to dominate matches at Anfield, failing to win a home match by more than a single goal this season. Liverpool are however unbeaten in their last four home matches but they face an Arsenal side who have lost only two out of their last 17 matches against the Merseysiders.
Arsenal go into Wednesday’s match in fine form, having won seven out of their last eight matches to lead the Premier League table and with a place in the last 16 of the Champions League booked. A comfortable 3-1 success over Sunderland in the FA Cup at the weekend was the perfect way to come into the Liverpool match and manager Arsene Wenger will be keen for the recent run of good form to continue against a side that Arsenal traditionally do well against. Midfielder Mesut Ozil was rested against Sunderland but the German is set to return to the side as he looks to add to his tally of 16 assists for the season. Alexis Sanchez is likely to miss out however, as he continues to make his comeback from a hamstring injury that has kept him out since November.
The corresponding fixture last season ended in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel scoring an injury time equaliser for the Merseysiders. This fixture has also seen more hat-tricks than any other fixtures in the Premier League, with a total of five having been scored.
Arsenal are the 13/8 (2.63) favourites for the match with Liverpool available at 2.88 (15/8) and the draw 3.5 (5/2). With 35 goals having been scored in the last nine league meetings between the sides at Anfield, a bet on the total match goals may be the best betting angle. Therefore, the football betting tip for the Liverpool versus Arsenal match is over 2.5 goals in the match at 2 (Evens).
