( votes)NBA Weekend Preview
With another week in the books, there’s an entire weekend of NBA action to look forward to. This weekend features a triumphant return for one of the league’s best players, a battle between two of the best young international players in the sport, and another chance for a record setting win streak to be extended. These are the five best games of the weekend in the NBA.
Golden State Warriors vs. Toronto Raptors
For the Golden State Warriors, the first quarter of this season has been a complete cake walk. They have won their first 20 games, and Stephen Curry is on pace to make more three point shots over the last two seasons than Larry Bird made in his entire career. But the Warriors take on a tough challenge in Toronto on Saturday, where the Raptors look to hand Golden State their first loss of the season.
Toronto has been inconsistent this season, but the talent is there for them to pull an upset here. It’s entirely possible that they don’t, but anticipate a close game in this contest. Also look to see if the Warriors reduce the minutes of players like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, as they have another game on Sunday, which we will get to shortly.
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Miami Heat
In what will be an interesting return to Miami, LeBron James comes back as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Miami Heat. You will remember, of course, that James won two straight championships as a member of the Heat with current Heat players Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh helping him to win those titles.
New York Knicks vs. Milwaukee Bucks
Two of the best young players from outside of the United States square off in this game, with Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis and Bucks guard Giannis Antetokounmpo taking the floor in this one. Beyond just those two players, though, are many other talented players who may help both of these teams compete for playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.
Golden State Warriors vs. Brooklyn Nets
The Golden State Warriors were mentioned earlier for their Saturday game against the Toronto Raptors, but this Sunday matchup with the Brooklyn Nets can also be a place for them to pick up their first loss of the season. Playing in back to back games in two different countries won’t be easy, so it will be interesting to see whether or not the Warriors can remain focused and play at a high level against the Nets.
Similarly to the Saturday game against the Raptors, look to see if the Warriors reduce the minutes of their star players, as they may not want to risk the long term health of their players just to keep a winning streak going early in the season. After all, the ultimate goal is to win another championship.
Dallas Mavericks vs. Washington Wizards
Both of these teams have the potential to play very well, but aren’t doing so consistently. The Mavericks have the advantage inside in this game, while the superior guards belong to Washington, so one of those styles will carry the day in what is an intriguing game.
