( votes)Heading into Week 10 of the NFL season, the New England Patriots are crushing their competition with eight wins and zero losses. One of the biggest reasons for that strong first half of the season is quarterback Tom Brady, who is being mentioned as a candidate for the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award. But is there anyone else worthy of being in the discussion with Tom Brady for the award?
Tom Brady Playing With Motivation
When considering just how great Tom Brady has been this season, one must remember that he is playing with an enormous chip on his shoulder after being suspended for four games for his role in the football deflation scandal that plagued the New England Patriots’ offseason. Brady had to take the NFL to court to get the suspension overturned, and was angry that the league would treat him so unfairly, hence the added motivation to be great.
Now, with that added motivation to get revenge for being wronged, some NFL quarterbacks would try too hard and make poor decisions as a result. Tom Brady, however, has gone the other way. He’s been even more precise than usual despite playing with a sea of rage in his head. That makes what he is doing even more impressive this year.
Tom Brady Playing Flawlessly
So far this season, Tom Brady has been nearly perfect for a New England Patriots team that has had a perfect start. Brady has thrown for over 2,700 yards and 22 touchdowns with just 2 interceptions, numbers that dwarf most of his competition at the quarterback position. But what’s even more impressive than Brady’s great numbers is the way he’s racked them up.
For Tom Brady to put up those statistics, he’s needed to be a master of spreading the football around, which he certainly has been. Brady has featured difference receivers in a number of games this season, making defenses guess whether they need to focus more heavily on Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, or another player before getting to the rest of his weapons. This gives Brady more flexibility when passing, and has been a huge reason for his success.
Is Tom Brady A Lock For MVP?
Right now, it doesn’t seem like there is anyone who can compete with Tom Brady for the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award. While fellow quarterbacks Cam Newton and Andy Dalton have helped their teams engineer similarly perfect starts, they have not been as consistently great as Tom Brady has, which will stop them from taking home the award.
Furthermore, the New England Patriots look like the only team in the NFL with a realistic shot to finish the regular season undefeated. Should they pull that feat off, the award will certainly be awarded to Brady for engineering such a rare feat.
In a league that is headlined by quarterback play, quarterbacks tend to be considered for Most Valuable Player award honors more than any other position, and that gives a huge advantage to Tom Brady, who has been the best quarterback in the entire NFL.
